In seinem Traktat Ueber Lärm und Geräusch (1851) zürnt er besonders über das vermaledeite infernale Peitschenknallen der Fuhrleute in den hallenden Gassen der Städte: Bei allem Respekt vor der hochheiligen Nützlichkeit sehe ich doch nicht ein, daß ein Kerl, der eine Fuhr Sand oder Mist von der Stelle schafft, dadurch das Privilegium erlangen soll, jeden etwan aufsteigenden Gedanken in sukzessive zehntausend Köpfen (eine halbe Stunde Stadtweg) im Keime zu ersticken.
