इस प्रकार कि युक्ति को सामान्यतया बेकार माना जाता है क्योंकि पाइलट प्रकाश कचरा गैस की एक आश्चर्यजनक मात्रा (उसी तरीके से जैसे एक टपकता हुआ नल एक लंबे समय में बड़े मात्रा में पानी बर्बाद कर सकता है) और चूल्हों पर उपयोग लायक नहीं रहते लेकिन अब भी गैस जल ऊष्मकों में पाये जा सकते हैं।
