बादल ने मिस्री सेना को आगे बढ़ने नहीं दिया। तब मूसा ने अपनी लाठी लाल सागर की तरफ उठायी और पानी दो हिस्सों में बँट गया। इस तरह, इस्राएलियों के लिए भागने का रास्ता खुल गया, मगर वही रास्ता मिस्रियों के लिए मौत का फंदा बना गया।

अपने विद्यालय के लिए समुचित राशि और बडी संख्या में छात्र जुटा पाना उनके लिए कठिन हो गया था . और इसके खर्च को पूरा करने के लिए उन्हें पुरी स्थित अपना मकान और निजी पुस्तकालय का एक हिस्सा तक बेच देना पडा . उनका उत्साह बढाने के लिए उनकी पत्नी ने बडी शालीनता से अपने जेवर तक बेच दिए .
