1. The results obtained on a series of 39 subjects aged from 53 to 102 showed various alterations, such as thickening of the tunica albuginea and basal membrane and intertubule hyalinization.

2. Dural fibers reinforce the adventitial fibers not only by continuing them in their contact, much as the pages of a book, but also by being encrusted into the adventitia up to the tunica media, thus creating a very efficient mooring system.

Les fibres de la dure-mère viennent renforcer celles de l'adventice de la paroi artérielle, non seulement en les continuant à leur contact comme les feuillets d'un livre mais également en s'incrustant dans l'adventice pour gagner la média, réalisant alors un système d'amarrage très efficace.

3. Hormonal changes (primary testicular deficiency, decreased amplitude of hypothalamic GnRH secretion peaks), morphological and histological testicular changes (arteriolar sclerosis, Leydig cell and Sertoli cell degeneration, rarefaction of germ cells, thickening of the testicular tunica albuginea) related to physiological ageing are relatively well documented.

Les modifications hormonales (déficit testiculaire primaire, diminution de l’amplitude des pics de sécrétion hypothalamique de GnRH), les altérations histologiques et morphologiques testiculaires (sclérose artériolaire, dégénérescence des cellules de Leydig et de Sertoli, raréfaction des cellules germinales, épaississement de l’albuginée testiculaire) en rapport avec le vieillissement physiologique sont relativement bien documentées.

The gastrointestinal wall surrounding the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract is made up of four layers of specialised tissue – from the lumen outwards: Mucosa Submucosa Muscular layer Serosa (if the tissue is intraperitoneal) / Adventitia (if the tissue is retroperitoneal) -- these last two tissue types differ slightly in form and function according to the part of the gastrointestinal tract they belong to (see the section below for more detail) The epithelium, the most exposed part of the mucosa, is a glandular epithelium with many goblet cells.
