1. Intestinal absorption of Levothyroxin is around 80%, but only in acid environment and is significantly decreased by proton-pump inhibitors, antacids, atrophic gastritis and Helicobacter pylori infection.

2. It is either caused by an autoimmune process which leads to achlorhydria and severe intrinsic-factor deficiency ("classical pernicious anemia") or by atrophic gastritis from other causes, in particular Helicobacter pylori infection.

Diese wird entweder durch einen Autoimmunprozess hervorgerufen, der zu Achlorhydrie und Intrinsic-Factor-Mangel führt ("klassische Perniziosa"), oder durch eine atrophische Gastritis anderer Ursache, die zur Achlorhydrie bei zwar verminderter, aber noch ausreichender Intrinsic-Factor-Produktion führt (Nahrungs-Cobalamin-Malabsorptionsyndrom).
