1. At the General Affairs Council this week I announced the appointment of Ambassador Heaslip as the presidency's representative for Cyprus and we will consult with our partners when his recommendations are available on how the Union's approach to Cyprus might be further developed.

Beim Rat "Allgemeine Angelegenheiten" habe ich in dieser Woche die Ernennung von Botschafter Heaslip als Beauftragten der Präsidentschaft für Zypern angekündigt. Wir werden uns mit unseren Partnern beraten, wenn seine Empfehlungen für das weitere Vorgehen der Union im Hinblick auf Zypern vorliegen.

2. On 13 December 2019, the European Council adopted conclusions stating in particular that between European Council meetings, the General Affairs Council and Coreper, assisted by a dedicated Working Party, are to ensure that the negotiations are conducted in line with the overall positions and principles agreed by the European Council as well as with the Council’s negotiating mandate, and provide further guidance as necessary, fully consistent with the best interest of the Union and with the aim of reaching a result that is fair and equitable for all Member States and in the interest of our citizens.

Der Europäische Rat hat am 13. Dezember 2019 Schlussfolgerungen angenommen, in denen insbesondere erklärt wird, dass der Rat (Allgemeine Angelegenheiten) und der AStV zwischen den Tagungen des Europäischen Rates mit Unterstützung einer eigens hierfür eingesetzten Arbeitsgruppe dafür sorgen, dass die Verhandlungen im Einklang mit den allgemeinen Standpunkten und Grundsätzen des Europäischen Rates und mit dem Verhandlungsmandat des Rates geführt werden, und dass sie nach Bedarf weitere Leitlinien vorgeben, die in vollem Umfang dem besten Interesse der Union und dem Ziel entsprechen, ein Ergebnis zu erreichen, das fair und gerecht für alle Mitgliedstaaten sowie im Interesse unserer Bürgerinnen und Bürger ist.
